One thing you’ll come to learn about me is that I. love. lipstick. To me, it completes my look. There’s especially something to be said about a bright shade of red. Swipe on a shade of red lipstick and you’ll be sure to turn heads at upcoming holiday events.
Today I thought it’d be fun to share some of my lipstick expertise. Below, I’ve rounded up my favorite red lipsticks to wear during the holiday season.
I just picked this shade up from Sephora a few weeks ago. I’d had my eyes on it for awhile, mainly because I thought the packaging was so pretty. But upon trying it, I was hooked. The shade is almost a pinky-red in person, but can definitely pass as a holiday red in my opinion. The formula is so soft and creamy, but also long-wearing. While the price point is steep, I consider it kind of a collectors item because of the beautiful packaging, and the shade is so unique and unlike anything I’ve ever worn before.
I picked up this shade a couple months ago when I was shopping for neutral shades to wear for my wedding (go figure). I was immediately attracted to the rich formula and the highly-pigmented shade of red. This is definitely a full-coverage lipstick – a little bit goes a long way. My favorite part of all about this lipstick is that it makes my teeth look super white. Who doesn’t want that?
This is more of an every day, lightweight shade. For those of you that are hesitant to dip your toes into the intimidating world of red lipstick, this might be the one for you. The shade is a lighter red, almost an orangey-pinky-red, and the formula is a little more sheer than other lipsticks here, but also super moisturizing, which is why I’m drawn to it.
This has been one of my tried and true red lipsticks for a number of years. I actually saw it on Grace‘s blog years ago, she mentioned it was one of her favorite lipsticks, so I gave it a try, and she was right! I like that it’s a crayon, it makes it easier to control. I have thin lips, so thicker tubes of lipstick make it hard for me to stay inside the lines, if you will. The formula of this lipstick is also super moisturizing and pigmented. It’s also water-resistant. So many wins!
I know. I know. It’s Kylie Cosmetics. Yes, I took the plunge and bought some of her stuff. I’d seen this shade posted on her Instagram account a few times and I just had to try it. And I’m so glad I did! This lipstick hasn’t left my purse since I purchased it. Her website describes it as a “warm brown berry”, but it is not that at all. It goes on as a kind of brick red color, but then when it dries down, it’s a little bit darker of a red. I absolutely LOVE the formula of this matte liquid lip. I hopped on the matte liquid lipstick trend HARD last year, and a lot of the formulas were a miss. This formula is great because it isn’t flaky or crusty, it’s full-coverage and it lasts ALL DAY. If you’ve been thinking about purchasing something from her line, I’d highly recommend one of her matte liquid lipsticks if you’re looking for matte and long-wearing.
This shade is one of MAC’s most popular, and for good reason. It’s such a bright, beautiful red! The matte formula is pigment-rich and has really great color payoff. I had a revelation the other day about this shade as I was thinking about this post. I’m pretty sure NARS “Heat Wave” is almost an exact dupe for this shade. So, if you have either shade, they’re perfect for the holidays.
Last, but certainly not least. This product is NO joke. As the longest wearing lipstick I’ve ever worn, it definitely lives up to its name. I have literally gone to sleep with this on and woken up and it’s still going strong in full force. I love this lipstick because I can put it on once in the morning and not think about having to reapply my lipstick for the rest of the day. I can sip on my coffee, eat lunch, drink out of my water bottle, and it’s not going to budge. This is arguably my favorite lipstick I own and it’s under $8. I also have it in the shade “Lover” and I really like that color as well. Highly recommend!!!
